The Cross in our Bodies

March 30, 2018

We are walking, talking "masterpieces" created in the most amazing and marvelous fashion. The more I study the human body, the more I marvel at the power of the Divine Craftsman. We truly are fearfully and wonderfully made!

Pictured is a drawing of a laminin. This is a cell adhesion molecule. Laminins are a family of proteins that are an integral part of the structural scaffolding of basement membranes in almost every animal tissue. Laminins are what hold us together, literally. They are what holds one cell of our bodies to the next cell. Without them, we would fall apart!

I love how the Bible describes how creation exists. "For by Him (Jesus) all things were created: things in heaven and on hearth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together." (Colossians 1:16-17) This is why one of my favorite Scriptures is found in Psalm 139:13-14, "For You (God) created my inmost being, You knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well."

The laminin is a perfect example of how we are "held together" when we were "knit together". The drawing of the laminin does indeed look as though it were knit together.

Because today is Good Friday, the day Jesus was nailed to a cross for our sins to be put upon Him to be judged by God, I am thankful. I am thankful for the incredible love Jesus had for us. Love is always sacrificial. The greatest sacrifice we can make is to lay down our lives for the sake of another. This is the day Jesus exclaimed just before giving up his spirit, "It is finished!" We would never have to be separated from God ever again. From this moment on, we would have the privilege of being forever connected to our Creator, in this life and the next. With Jesus as our mediator, God only sees us as clean, whole, without sin.

Jesus rose from the dead three days after His death on the cross. No other human being in all of history has ever done this. Because of this, we can rejoice that death was conquered! Jesus permanently knit us together with God forevermore through the gift of the Holy Spirit.

I pray you all have a very happy and blessed Easter Sunday as you thank the Lord for all He has done!
